Harvey-Vale Advances Into Courts Finals

Courts top three -- Miss Dover, Mr Harvey-Vale, Kyle Noel (winner) and Ms Hillsborough Courts top three -- Miss Dover, Mr Harvey-Vale, Kyle Noel (winner) and Ms Hillsborough

The Harvey Vale Government School will represent the sister isles at the national finals of the 7th annual Courts reading competition.

They advanced to the October 14th finals after Kyle Noel won the district one competition last week Thursday at the Hillsborough Resource Centre.  He scored 294 points.

He was followed by Micah Bethel of the Hillsborough Government School with 278 points and Lexxann McLawrence of Dover Government in third with 267.  The other two participants were, Gillisa Samuel and Owena Samuel of the Petite Martinique Roman Catholic and L’Esterre RC Schools respectively.

The five students were asked to deliver a narrative and news item.  The three member judging panel complimented the students on their confidence level, quickness to recover after an error and for their pitch and voice range.  However they expressed concern with their lack of eye contact, inability to use their punctuation marks and deportment.

Noel says that he is happy to have won after a nervous start. He credits his success to the support invested in him by his mother, principal and staff.  Preparations he said would intensify for next Wednesday’s finals.
