Skinny Banton, Shortpree and to a lesser extent Cloud Five have been flying the musical flag of the sister isles across the region and internationally; however, they are about to be joined by another.
Libra (Ricardo Phillip) has delivered a song this year, which has surpassed most on the mainland in terms of its popularity. The song –Venom Jab- - has earned him several performances at the major events as part of SpiceMas 2017.
The weight of the song has also caused more soca music lovers, from the mainland and overseas to take note of the quality of music, which has been emerging from the sister isles in recent years.
Libra says that he was able to perform at some of the major shows for SpiceMas 2017 and attributes it to the popularity of the song. In thanking Lava Man for his support, Libra points out that the power of the song reflects hard work and the knowledge of what it takes to please the Soca fans throughout this country and overseas.
The current Road March king, Major Dickson, took the decision to travel to the mainland to promote his popular song – Bumper Vibration. A move that made the song better known on the mainland and ultimately landed him a spot in the finals of the groovy competition where he placed 11th. Libra also did the same, coining it a brilliant move while pointing out that every artist from the sister isles should in the future travel to the mainland to work their songs for themselves.
“This really gave me a forward for the Carnival”, said Libra.
He said that the quantity of his material is so much that “I need to be living in a studio”.
While pointing out that he is more of an entertainer than a competing artist, Libra disclosed that he would be coming with greater venom in 2018 as he goes after the road march title.
