PETERS PIECE: When You See God Ready For Them

It has become so normal for people to try to lie bramble and bulls..t their way into and out of things that those who do it are in the vast majority.

I look around the community and I am appalled at what people expect to get away with and take for granted that they should. Now no one ever accused me of being anywhere close to the most pious and virtuous bloke around and I have never made that claim.

I happen to be just your regular guy who makes mistakes, falls short, plays the arse from time to time and generally messes up sometimes. I admit that, I accept it and shucks, that’s the way it is.

However I also do my share of goods deeds and many times go out of my comfort zone to help another as I am sure many Grenadians customarily do. And many of us do it not to get the many blessings in return but because we think it is the right thing to do.

I mean we were all born human beings-I hope-, we are fallible and subject to mistakes. Those who chose the Christian to guide their path through this world, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, especially if they are sincere about it and it gives then strength, courage and something to live for, to aim for as they negotiated the complicated treacherous maze that is life on this earth.

What amazes me is that some people have become so comfortable in their attitude that they can scheme their way through everything that they are scheming by as a Christian. Now mind you, based on what I said earlier, I am in no position to judge who is a real Christian and who is not.

However, because I have been taught from childhood what a Christian life is supposed to entail and by observing the behaviour of some persons and because I am not particularly dunce, I am able to make an intelligent deduction.

The society is overrun with persons who loudly profess to be followers of God and berate you with what a virtue it is to live the Christian life; I mean the bible toting, scripture quoting, hymn singing type of Christian who have become fixtures in the church and the church will resound emptily whenever they are not present at a service.

Many of them however are the same persons who when they drop their guard exhibit the most selfishness, avarice, spite and dishonesty.

Dr. Richard J. Krejcir in describing christian character traits said character is a spiritual fruit that is built from our real, godly relationship and commitment to Christ as LORD. It is the fiber of our moral center that stretches throughout our being, embracing and holding together our relationships when it is sealed as a choice and commitment, and not just a feeling or a personality. Character synergistically combines with the fruit of the spirit and the seventy or so other characters of our Lord to promote our ability to relate and grow in our relations, to better others as well as ourselves.

Alright, I lay no claim to being a Christian but those that do so claim may do well to study the preceding passage. Too many people use claims of Christianity and serving God to get away with dastardly deeds, perpetuating the exact opposite of what Christianity claims to accentuate.

Beat their chests resoundingly and spout scripture passages at every opportunity seems to be what many people feel will provide a free passage to whatever they want to get away with.

Politicians-yeah you knew that was coming- seem now to be doing it more than anyone; flinging forth a scripture after every few words they utter, including the name of God in everything they say, describe themselves as followers of Christ and if you look at the things they condone if they don’t do it themselves.

Many of our current crop of politicians seem to think the claim of being Christian, pastor or one of several other designations will cover their backsides from the anger and retribution of the people whom, while they are quoting scripture and making claims of piety, they continue to walk over with hobnailed boots.
