Luni Spark and Electrify win Soca Monarch Title

After a two-year break from the Soca stage the St. Patrick’s brothers Kellon and Kelson Ogiste “Luni Spark and Electrify” returned with a bang winning the 2014 Soca Monarch title with their selection “No Mercy.”

The brothers, sons of Grenada’ first female calypso monarch Lady Cinty had the energetic Soca Monarch crowd at the National Stadium on their feet at last Friday’s final, a performance that not only had the support of the crowd but that of the judges.

Shortly after the result was announced the brothers burst into tears of joy a moment that rendered them spellbound for a while and unable to communicate with members of the media.

After regaining their composure the brothers said winning the 2014 title is like a dream come true, since it was not their decision to return to competition but the wish of the people and therefore they are delighted to represent the people as their Soca Monarch.

The Ogiste brothers said being king is not all that easy but they are up to the challenge as this year makes it their third Soca monarch title and they thanked the people for their support.

Second place went to Keishon “Squeeze Head” Hazzard, his selection “ Turbo Charge,” third place was defending champion Jalon “Boyzie” Olive with his selection ‘ State of Emergency,’ the veteran Elimus “ Inspector” Gilbert, was fourth, fifth Hernard “Terra Kid”, Bernard, sixth Edson “Ajamu” Mitchell.

The other positions went to Lil Vaughn, Killa B, Scholar, Little Natty and Thunder, Randy Isaac, ShortPree, Mr Walkie, Brama and Sylum.
