The preliminary round of the competition to determine who would be crowned Grenada’s 2017 Soca Monarch has been completed, and sitting at the top of the table by way of points heading into the semi-final round is a newcomer to the soca arena.
According to the judges, after four nights of judging, which ended Sunday at Carnival City in St George’s featuring some one hundred and twenty artistes, newcomer Sherwin Paul alias Mr Walkie topped the list.
Mr Walkie’s selection “Drama” combined with his energy on stage had the Carnival City crowd on their feet causing him to amass 216 points, which came as no surprise to many.
Also scoring 216 points was Kenton Ashton alias “Bubba” with his selection “Black and Famous.” Kevon Francis alias “Blaze” together with former soca monarch duo Kellon and Kelson Ogiste (Luni Spark and Electrify) tied for the third place with 213 points, their selections King” and “Natural Disaster” respectively.
The fifth spot was captured by Andrew Phillip and Valene Nedd with the selection “Show Them” capturing a total of 212 points.
The following is the list of the 2017 Soca Monarch Semi-finalist showdown scheduled for Friday, July 28th at the Grenville Bus Terminus.
Meanwhile, preliminary judging for the Groovy Soca Monarch title should have commenced on Thursday and will run until Sunday at Carnival City in St. George.
