Imani Worker Slapped With DRUG CHARGES Featured

Law enforcement officers particularly those attached to the Drug Squad, have reasons to believe that they have uncovered a major drug ring in the east of the Island; over forty pounds of marijuana seized, three men including an Imani worker attached to the Grenada Coast Guard arrested and charged.

According to information reaching the Grenada Informer, the three men, Marquis resident Kelson Charles an Imani trainee attached to the Grenada Coast Guard, Kelon Thomas a resident of Balthazar, St. Andrew’s and Joseph Augustine who resides at Telescope in St. Andrew’s were all snatched by members of the Drug Squad and subsequently charged with possession and trafficking a controlled drug. Close to fifty pounds of marijuana plus one vehicle, registration number PL 780 was also seized by the police.

Sources told the Informer that last week’s crack down on what the lawmen believe was an established drug ring in the eastern end of the island, had been on the police radar for months and should have been executed long before. However Informer was told the police believe, that the men were able to evade officers because they had direct information from within the RGPF.

Charles who was recently lauded by Acting Police Commissioner Winston James and other senior ranked officers within the RGPF for his bravery and devotion to duties, became a member of the Grenada Coast Guard through the Imani programme just over two years ago.  He has been placed on $40,000.00 bail and is due to return to court in July.

If convicted Charles faces a maximum life in prison on a charge of trafficking and/or fined a maximum of five hundred thousand dollars on both charges.
