63 Year-Old British National Slapped With DRUG CHARGES

A sixty-three year old Grenadian Born British national, nabbed at the Maurice Bishop International Airport last Monday moments before he boarded a flight back to London, on cocaine related charges, has been placed on bail in the sum of four hundred and fifty thousand dollars.

 Magistrate Taheria Gellineau, operating out of the Number two Magistrate’s Court in St Georges last Friday, had the sixty-three year-old Alister Wiggins placed on bail after a lengthy debate between defense council Ruggles Ferguson and police prosecutor acting on behalf of the state, surrounding the issue of bail.

Prosecution objected to having Wiggins placed on bail on the grounds that he could become a flight risk being a British National. Ferguson, on the other hand, told the court that his client is a born Grenadian who has being living in London for a number of years.   

After reserving her decision on Thursday, Wiggins was granted bail last Friday in the sum of $ 450,000. 00 with two sureties and special conditions attached; among them he must surrender all his travel documents, and report to a nearby police station Monday and Friday between the hours of 6am and 6pm.

 According to information emanating from the court, Wiggins is a contactor by profession who had being on vacation in Grenada he was taken in by members of the drug squad attached to the Maurice Bishop International Airport, who had a suspicious looks about one of the suitcases he was carrying.    Sources said a search was carried out on Wiggin’s luggage when a parcel believed to be containing the band drug was discovered.

 Wiggins faces charges of possession and trafficking of a controlled drug to wit cocaine.

 During last Thursday’s sitting the prosecution indicated that they summarily with the matter.

 In found guilty, Wiggins can be fined five hundred thousand dollars on both charges, or be sent to prison for life on the charge of trafficking.
