A mere 0.2 of a point separated the winner from the first runner-up; nevertheless, a win is a win and therefore nine-year-old Resource resident has been crowned Ms Privilege Queen 2017.
The young lady who goes by the name of Nickayah Ferguson but contested under the title, Ms Resource, had the Ms Privilege 2017 Queen title bestowed on her just before midnight in front a jubilant crowd at the Samaritan School Ground on Sunday.
Six contestants braced the stage depicting various aspects of Grenada’s culture and were judged based on their introduction, talent, carnival wear and speech and eveningwear.
When the curtain came down on the final act of the evening it was all left up to the five judges and by their findings after releasing the top three performers, the analogy could have been drawn, that it was indeed a closely contested event.
The third position according to the judges went to Ms Latoya Edwards-Ms. Samaritan. She amassed a total of 208.3 points, position two went to Ms Nahira John-Ms. Chantimelle, amassing a total of 215.8 points and the winner with a total of 216 points Ms Ferguson-Ms. Resource who, portraying Wild Indian as her Carnival wear and Snow White as her evening wear, had the crowd buzzing with cheers.
Apart from running away with the coveted title, Ms Ferguson also won the awards for Best Introduction, Best Talent and Best Interview.
Among her takings were food baskets, compliments George F. Huggins, school Supplies, a trophy, tablet, a voucher for $ 200.00 to open an account at the Grenada Cooperative Bank among others.
The second runner-up won a trophy, day pass for two at Sandals, and Petite Anse, a voucher for $50.00 from Privilege Theater while the first runner-up won her herself a trophy, hotel day pass at True Blue Bay Resort, tickets to the Alternative Soca Monarch Show and voucher for $100.00 to open an account at Grenada Cooperative Bank.
Meanwhile, other awards handed out on Sunday were the award for Ms Photogenic, which went to Ms Rianna Narine-Ms. Redmud. She won herself a photo shoot complement Digital Memory, the winner of the Ms Congeniality award was Ms Latoya Edwards-Ms. Samaritan, who received a food hamper compliments Philbert Supermarket, she also won the award for the Best Carnival Wear and Best Carnival Speech, taking thereby, two tickets to the Kiddies Carnival show compliments Spicemas as well as school supplies from Standard Books Store.
The winner of the award for the Best Evening Wear was Ms Nahira John-Ms. Chantimelle and she won herself lunch for two, compliments Belmont Estate.
Organisers of the event Privilege Theatre thanked the entire business community for their support in making the event the success it was.
