Mt Gay Hospital Murder Accused Has Retained Legal Representation

Twenty-seven-year-old Gabriel Alleyne of Mt. Parnassus St George made his second court appearance at the No.1 magistrate court onFriday August 4th before Chief Magistrate Tamara Gill on the indictable charge of Non-capital murder following a fatal incident, at the Mt. Gay Psychiatric Hospital. 

The murder accused by the time he made his second court appearance had retained legal counsel in the person of Ms. Pauline Hannibal of Hannibal & Duncan Phillip. When Alleyne made his first appearance late last month he had been unrepresented by legal counsel

Ms. Hannibal indicated to the court at Friday’s hearing that she is awaiting the medial report from the Mt.Gay Mental Hospital.

The matter was adjourned to Friday August 11 at the N0.2 Magistrate Court when the accused was ordered to return to court for mention on an earlier charge of wounding, he will return on August 25 to answer the charge of non-capital murder.

 Approximately seven witnesses are involved in the matter, including his mother, father, nurses, doctors and police officers.

Unemployed Gabriel Alleyne was accused of using his bare hands to strangle to death 49-year-old, Laura Land, St. David resident Anthony Alexander, who was at the time warded at the Rathdune Unit of the mental institution.

Alleyne was at the time also a patient at the hospital.  He is facing the wounding charge for a June 14 incident, which left his mother nursing a stab wound to her chest.
