Grenadian Afy Fletcher On WI Women’s Cricket Team

Prominent Grenadian sports personality Afy Fletcher has been selected to the West Indies Women’s Cricket Team to tour Sri Lanka in May. Afy was selected after  splendid bowling performance in the trial match.

The other team members are – Stacy-Ann King, Kycia Knight, Chinelle Henry, Deandra Dottin, Hayley Matthews, Shamilia Connell, Staffanie Taylor, Britney Cooper, Marissa Aguilleira, Anisa Mohammed, Shemaine Campbelle, Sabrina Munro, Tremayne Smartt.

In an exclusive one-on-one with Afy in September 2013, she was asked: What next for Afy? “I want to get another chance of making the West Indies team so I am working on myself; it involves mental toughness. I also want to be a winning captain; to win a championship as captain”. Afy’s selection is indicative of someone with the passion to succeed and one who worked towards her clearly-stated goal

Of regaining a place on team West Indies. Afy left Grenada last Tuesday to join the rest of the team and officials, travelling on to Colombo – Sri Lanka.

The coach is former West Indies bowler – Vasbert Drakes while another former fast bowler – Ezra Moseley is the assistant. The tour comprises 4 One-Day Internationals and 3 T20s. The ODIs will be on May 13th, 15th, 18th and 20th while the 3 T20s are scheduled for May 23rd, 25th and 26th.

Congratulations to Afy Fletcher. Grenada wishes her successful tour to the subcontinent. Afy is also into football and participated in a referees’ course organized by FIFA and GFA.
