St David’s New Champion, Andre Fletcher/GCA U15 Cup

St David’s under-fifteen Cricketers are the winners of the 2017 Andre Fletcher/ Grenada Cricket Association under-15 Cup.

The young cricketers from St David captured the title with a convincing six-wicket victory over St Patrick at the River Sallee playing Field on Sunday, to finish unbeaten in the tournament after four matches.

St Patrick, sent in to bat after losing the toss was bundled out for a mere 92 in 19.3 overs. Kelshon Andrew 16 and Nelroy Andrew 12, were the only two batsmen getting into double figures.

The bowling of Kyle Dominique, 4 wickets for 21 runs from 5.3 overs, Josh Bartholomew’s 2 for 15 from 4 and Jahiem Brathwaite’s 2 for 20 from 4, proved too much of a challenge for the St Patrick team which lost wickets at regular intervals in their short stint at the crease.

St David responded with 96 for 4 in 27.1 overs. Leading the charge for the champion team was Jahiem Brathwaite, 29 not out, Shaun Patterson 19 and Nickell punch, 12 not out.

Bowling for St Patrick Jamil Rocastle finished with figures of 2 for 27 from 7.1 overs and Kelsheon Andrew 1 for 23 from 7 overs.

Sunday’s victory means that St David is the 2017 Andre Fletcher/Grenada Cricket Association title holder, having defeated the defending champion St Patrick. The St David victory ends a three-year winning streak by St Patrick.

The final points standing at the end of the tournament reads; St David 8 points from four matches; St Andrew 6 points; St Patrick 4 points; St Mark 0 points from four matches.

Meanwhile selectors appointed by the Grenada Cricket Association have named a nineteen man squad from the just ended tournament to continue training for possible selection on the national team for the upcoming WINLOTT Under-15 tournament to be held in Grenada from April 9.
