GRENADA JOINS ALBA

Grenada was accepted as a full member of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) during the XIII Summit of the Alliance, which occurred in Havana, Cuba on Sunday 14th December 2014. According to a release from the Government Information Services (GIS) Prime Minister Mitchell attended the summit accompanied by Hon. Oliver Joseph, and Sen. Peter David, and delivered the keynote address.

What is ALBA?

ALBA is the Spanish acronym for the English translation of the “Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America.” ALBA was created in 2004 by the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, and Cuban leader Fidel Castro, who has since retired. The name “Bolivarian” refers to the ideology of Simon Bolivar – the 19th-century South American independence leader born in Caracas who wanted Hispanic America to unite as a single “Great Nation."
