Fathers Must Be Fathers - The System Must Help

THE ISSUE OF child support continues to be a sore point here in Grenada and despite numerous changes to the system there is still a tremendous amount of disservice being meted out to single parents, mothers in particular and their children.

Grenada has signed numerous protocols and enacted laws that are designed to improve the country’s child protection environment but while it all looks good on paper, getting parents to meet their maintenance obligations is still almost a daily struggle.

A ninety-foot mosaic wall now provides an eye-catching welcome to the Carenage from the south entrance to the iconic waterfront.

On Thursday last week the Grenada Tourism Authority officially introduced the colourful mural portrait adorning the wall that leads onto one of the most beautiful harbours in the Caribbean.

Leftist who first won the title in 1987, was strong and crafty in his delivery of – Blind and Can’t See” to secure the title on Sunday night at the Hillsborough Tennis Court.


Gold’n Gracefully Grooved To Groovy Crown

Rising above the medals of silver and bronze, Gold’N (Matthew Thomas) was able to craft a performance of both delivery and presentation, which scratched the surface of diamond, on his way to regaining the Groovy Crown.

Methodically dressed in brown a suit, carnival inner shirt and glittering reflective black pair of shoes, the 2014 Groovy Monarch was simply in magical form as he rendered his song, Destiny.


Slatta Slaughtered 16 To Soca Title

In a stunning, brilliantly crafted presentation, Slatta (Gerard John) brought his magical best to the stage to power his way to the Power Soca Monarch title.

Performing in position number seven among a cast of seventeen, to a jam packed Hillsborough Tennis Court on Friday, the Mt Royal based artiste shattered the venue with a rousing delivery of his winning selection “ World War”.  In only his second appearance at the final, the tall Slatta scored 411 points to end the three-year reign of Killa-B (Brendon McKie) who had to settle for the second best position.  His selection, King Kong was also very powerful as he continued on his path of excellent presentations. He scored 406 points.


Oshnen Mathurine is Carnival’s Miss Majestic Queen

A majestic wave of elegance swept across the stage of the 2017 Digicel Beauty Pageant, which lifted Ms Oshnen Mathurine of Beausejour to the submit as the newly crowned carnival queen.

The 18 year old who portrayed, Fancy mas, secured the title by scoring 369 points. The first runner up position went to, 18 year old Miss Rachel Croney of mainland Grenada who, portraying Miss Groovy amassed 358 points while Miss J’ouvert in the person of Brianna Joseph, 18, of Brunswick the second runner up Position with 336.


GG SHAKES UP Elections Office

MORE REGISTRATION OFFICERS could be fired after a decision last week by Governor General Dame Cecile La Grenade to get rid of almost half of the fifteen officers assigned to the electoral districts.

Registration officers in St George’s Southeast, St John, St Patrick East and the four St Andrew constituencies were given their walking papers a few days ago.

Registration offers are employed under one year contracts as stipulated under the law. But a source said the Governor General is not yet finished with the changes and more letters are on their way.


GHRO Decries Mt Gay Health Hazard

The Grenada Human Rights Organisation (GHRO) Inc. is concerned about the deplorable conditions and health and safety hazards of workers and patients at the Mt Gay Mental Hospital in St George’s. 

According to reports from union officials, for the past 12 months, workers at the hospital and patients have been forced to live with an obnoxious stench coming out of the septic tank system of the housing scheme, which is located approximately 100 meters from the hospital.
