Boxing Looking Good In Grenada

A very successful pre-OECS boxing tournament, dubbed “BOXING MANIA 2 2017” was held at the Youth Development Center in Grand Anse Saturday 1st April, was just part of a string of successes and achievements for the Boxing Association of Grenada. 

In a series of exciting bouts; light welterweight Jerome Joseph of Kayak Warriors Gym defeated Neal Wilson of River Road on points; female lightweight Darniell Thomas of River Road Gym defeated Sheerece Victor of Body Image Gym on points; welterweight Javis Joseph, River Road Gym defeated Kazim Mc Kenzie River Road Gym by TKO.

JAMES THRILLS LOCAL FANS

The highlight of the successful staging of the inaugural Grenada Invitational was when the country’s hero Kirani James won his 400m race in 45.44secs.

The fans had gone crazy when during the opening ceremony; the stadium was named after the former Olympic and World Champion. However, he was not the overall fastest, as Bahamian talent Steven Gardiner won the other race in World lead and Bahamian national record 44.26.

INTERCOL CHAMPS 2017

A gritty and determined performance by the Grenada Boys Secondary School pulled the Tanteen institution back from a significant deficit at the beginning of the final to claim victory in the 2017 Intercol track and field championships.

While the otherTanteen school Anglican High School stamped their authority from the start and victory was all but assured for a 4th consecutive year, GBSS had to grit their teeth and dig deep to overcome powerfularch rivals and last year’s champions the St. Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School, (SAASS) in the closing stages to clinch the victory by 18.5 points.
