U.S. Ambassador to Grenada Linda Taglialatela hosted a reception at Pier 57 in Grand Mal, St. George’s to commemorate the 246th Anniversary of the Independence of the United States and to bid farewell to Principal Officer to Grenada Karl Duckworth and his family.
In her speech, Ambassador Taglialatela commented on the continuing effects of the pandemic and the war in Europe. “Grenada and the United States have stood together during these crises, recognizing the dignity of the human person and the birthright of everyone to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We must continue to stand together – for the health of our people and the health of an international system that stands up to unprovoked aggression,” she said.
Duckworth in his farewell remarks said that “leading our Embassy and engaging the Grenadian people and the Grenadian government has been the biggest honour of my career. I cannot fully express how grateful I am to everyone who has worked together to strengthen the ties between the United States and Grenada in areas ranging from education and exchanges to health, the environment, and law enforcement. As I look back over these past three years, my family and I will take a piece of Grenada with us for the rest of our lives.”
Governor-General of Grenada Dame Cecile La Grenade, newly elected Prime Minister of Grenada Dickon Mitchell, and members of the current and previous governments were among the guests who attended the event.
